Delphia Merrie (Gilbertson) VandenBurg, 98, of Fulda, Minnesota passed away peacefully on November 1, 2023 at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, Minnesota.
Delphia, best known as Del, was born August 11, 1925 in Rock County, Minnesota to Augustus Gilbertson and Edna (Schmidt) Gilbertson.
On March 16, 1945 she was united in marriage to Cornelius “Cornie” VandenBurg. The couple was blessed with two sons - Roger and Gary.
Del was a nurse’s aide at Pipestone Hospital for many years. She and Cornie sang and played guitar together live on KLOH radio on Sundays, occasionally joined by their son Roger. Del always enjoyed gardening and feeding the birds. She had great affection for the many dogs and cats she owned throughout her life. Her family fondly remembers her home aways filled with the aroma of fresh coffee and many hours spent playing cards and board games together. Her spunky spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Roger (Sue) VandenBurg; sister, Sharon Ness; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Delphia was preceded in death by her parents, Augustus and Edna Gilbertson; her beloved husband, Cornelius; her brothers, Darrell “Sparky” Gilbertson and Dewaine Gilbertson; sister, Doris Fitzgerald; and son, Gary VandenBurg.
