The MCC Rebels were hoping to start a winning streak but you can’t have a streak if you don’t get the first win. The Rebels were hoping to get that first win against the Windom Area Eagles. The Rebels picked up their second win of the season by running the ball and making enough big plays on defense and special teams.

MCC dominated the first half on the scoreboard. The Rebels would score first on the second drive of the game when Ross Engelkes scored on a 5-yard touchdown run and the twopoint conversion by Teague Meyer made the score 8-0. On the second play of the second quarter, Krew Schneider blocked an Eagle punt into the endzone where it was recovered by Thomas Huso for the second score of the game. Carson Engelkes kicked the extra point to make the score 15-0. The Eagles would score in the second quarter when Quintin Tietz threw a touchdown pass to Tucker Renguist covering 6 yards. The Rebels would take a 21-6 lead when Ross Engelkes scored on a one-play drive covering 57 yards. The Rebel defense held the Eagles out of the endzone to end the first half. The Rebels were on top 21-6.

The second half would get crazy especially the third quarter where the two teams would combine to score 28 points and 3 turnovers. MCC would get the scoring started with Teague Meyer scoring on a one-yard run and it looked like the Rebels were ready to run away with the game leading 28 to 6, but Quintin Tietz would not go quietly. Tietz would throw and run his way through the Rebel defense scoring on a 5-yard run to make the score 28 to 12. The Rebels would then score but not before they would turn the ball over and then recover a turnover back from the Eagles. Ross Engelkes would score on a 17-yard run with the extra point by Carson Engelkes MCC led 35 to 12. Less than a minute later the Eagles would get a touchdown pass from Tietz to Renquist for the second time in the game but this time the two-point conversion to Karson Lacanne was completed making the score 35 to 20.

In the 4th quarter, the Rebels would try to work the clock while the Eagles were trying to score quickly. Windom Area would score first with 8:08 to play in the game. Tietz would score on a 14-yard run down the left sideline. The two-point conversion was good and the Rebels lead was down to 7. The Eagles would get the ball back and would get inside the Rebel 25-yard line with under a minute to play. Quintin Tietz would look to throw the ball into the endzone but with pressure in his face, the lobbed pass was intercepted by Jordan Sturges in the endzone to win the game 35 to 28.

It was a big win for the Rebels in their first matchup against Windom Area in school history. The Eagles had 100 more yards than the Rebels in this game but two drives ended without points one on downs before halftime and the interception in the endzone. Teague Meyer ran for 143 yards and a touchdown but two fumbles hurt the Rebels. ross Engelkes ran 15 times for 131 yards and 3 touchdowns. Quintin Tietz was unbelievable running for 91 yards and 2 touchdowns, he also threw for 317 yards and 2 touchdowns but had 2 interceptions.
