Slayton City Council discussed the new park shelter during their monthly meeting on Monday evening. Discussion included making a few changes to the proposed design. Final completion date of this building would be July 31, 2027. A special meeting of the council will be held on Thursday, October 8th, 2026,5:30 p.m. to make final decisions regarding the construction of the shelter.
A Slayton Library overview of the Summer Reading Program and usage of the library services was presented to the council. Hours read by participants over the summer were over 1,500, where during the summer of 2025, the logged hours spent reading were 327. Most activity statistics increased from over the previous year.
Approved was the updated Agency Agreement with Plum Creek Library System. Updates include the removal of the School District of Pipestone as a member due to withdrawal, a reduction in the notice period for special Board meetings from two weeks to five days, a shift in the preliminary budget timeline from March to April, and revisions to trustee appointment language to provide additional flexibility in selection methods. These revisions are administrative in nature and are not intended to alter the intent or governance structure of the agreement.
Resolution 10-05-2026A, Local Road Improvement Program Grant Agreement, seeking a grant amount of $209,000.00 was adopted.
Police Officer Alejandro Perez was removed from probationary status with the Slayton Police Department.
A motion was made and passed for the City Council to authorize the purchase of a Gator “HPX615E (Model Year 2027) from C & B. The price for the Gator is $15,950.
