The Rebel tracksters competed in a six-team invitational at Windom High School on Tuesday, April 15th. The smaller meet allowed the MCC coaches to use many athletes as they start to prepare for some important team meets in a few weeks.
Thrower Erica Doeden led the Lady Rebels, placing 5th in the shot put and 8th in the discus. Sophia Nelson also placed in a field event, coming in 7th in the long jump.
On the track, seventh grader Isabela Schreier had a fine 400, placing 4th. Holland Vogel ran a personal best time on her way to winning the 2-mile. In the relays, the foursome of Courtney Gengler, Beatrice Sargentini, Zita Wallisch, and Sophia Nelson placed 4th in the 4x200 while the grouping of Kora Kremer, Sargentini, Schreier, and Chloe Kremer came in 8th in the 4x100.
On the boys’ side, sprinters Lucus Kuball and Anikan Larson had some great head-to-head competitions. Kuball was victorious in both the 100 and 200, while Larson was 3rd in the 100 and 2nd in the 200. Alex Betz also ran in the open 200, placing 7th. That would go along with his runner-up performance in the 400. Teammate Henry Calson was 6th in the 400. Running a fine 800 and placing 5th was Walker Biren. In the 2-mile, Micah Janssen and Wesley Hause placed 3rd and 4th. Rounding out the individual running events are the hurdlers, where they would have three place in the 110 hurdles; Carter Knakmuhs 4th, Blaine Braun 5th, and Tyler Reith 6th, and four in the 300s; Parker Olson 2nd, Reith 3rd, Braun 5th, and Knakmuhs 8th.
In the relays, the Rebels entered 2 teams in each of the four relays. This would create some friendly inter-squad competition and allow the coaching staff to get times on many of the athletes. The 4x100 and 4x200 teams were identical, with Brayden Gilb, Jackson Schroeder, Luke Iverson, and Dylan Gilbertson making up team A and Max Mathiason, Carson Engelkes, Parker Olson, and Griffin Braun making up team B. In the 4x100, team A placed 2nd while team B was 4th. In the 4x200, team A edged team B by 0.10 seconds to take top honors. In the 4x400, Reith, Beckett Stelter, Kuball, and Betz were runners up while Iverson, Gilbertson, Glib, and Larson placed 3rd. The 4x800 team of Carlson, Henry Hause, Brett Pieske, and Wesley Hause was 2nd while Stelter, Janssen, Kolton Neilson, and Biren were just behind, coming in 3rd.
Due to facility changes at the Eagle Track Complex, the Rebel boys only enter their throwers in the field events. Isaiah Wolske led the way, winning the shot put and placing 2nd in the discus. Broox Platt was 8th in the shot and 3rd in the discus. Carson Engelkes was 5th in the discus.
