After a long battle with winter, signs of spring are starting to show all around the area. The grass is getting green, trees are growing leaves and some flowers are popping up.
Something else that will be popping up soon after a long and hard-fought battle are signs of construction at the new Wonder World site in Slayton.
According to a Facebook post by Wonder World Preschool, construction on the new facility is just around the corner. Some may have already noted the signs of activity near the pool and park area at the end of 28th Street.
The post states that in the next few weeks, Slayton city crews and B&H Excavating will begin water and Sewer work, followed by site preparation and concrete. Vertical construction is anticipated to begin around June 1.
“This project is a major investment in the future of our community, supporting our children, families, and continued growth,” the post states.
It also reminds everyone to stay clear of the construction area for safety, as there will be heavy equipment and active work zones.
“We appreciate your patience during construction, as there may be some temporary noise and disruptions. Be sure to follow WonderWorld Preschool and Haken Construction for updates and progress photos.”
Of the estimated $2.1 million needed to bring the project to fruition, 92 percent of the build is funded, with $168,000 left to raise.

According to Wonder World, “Together, we’re building more than a facility, we’re building a place where Slayton’s future can grow.”
