The Murray County Central/ Fulda Warriors competed in their second meet of the season at the annual Paul Metcalf Invitational in Mountain Lake. Mountain Lake is known for its challenging, hilly course.
The girls varsity team ran first. The Warriors took first place in the varsity race with 48 points, beating second place Mountain Lake Area Comfrey by 22 points. Senior Macy Hanson of Fairmont won in 18:59. Warrior girls Laiken Farris (21:11), Mara Clarke (21:44), and Sophia Nelson (21:53) finished back to back placing 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Then in 12th was Holland Vogel finishing in 22:45. Ruth Ethridge (27:55) then placed 43rd.
The boys varsity race followed the girls with the Warrior boys also placing first with 62 points. Senior Evan Bumgardner (17:17) once again led, placing second. Two places behind him was Mathew Stapek (17:40) in fourth. Alex Betz then finished in 18:29 to finish 16th. Brother duo Caleb (19:02) and Aiden Appel (19:29) placed 20th and 26th. Beckett Stelter (20:02) and Wesley Hause (20:10) had a back to back finish to place 31st and 32nd. Then was Alex Kueny, finishing 37th with a time of 20:34. Finally, Zach Kirchner ran 21:55 finishing 48th. Other Warriors in the boys varsity race were Walker Biren (22:12) in 54th, Blaine Braun (22:57) in 62nd, Carter Knakmuhs (23:03) in 63rd, and Allen Ahrens (24:20) in 78th.
The Warriors had two boys in the 4,000m junior varsity race. Warrior Tyler Reith won the race in 17:11. Then William Biren (23:59) finished in 20th.
In the shortened 2,000m junior high race, the girls also had two runners. Isabela Schreier once again finished in the top ten. She placed ninth at the Paul Metcalf Inviational. Then in 37th was Tessa Ahlquist. The boys junior high came in fourth with 74 points. Eighth grader Micah Janssen led the boys to place 8th, then Connor Pieske finished 18th. Garret Reith was four places behind in 22nd. The final two runners for the boys were Carson Sykora in 34th and Carter Larson in 39th.
The Warriors have had a very successful beginning to the 2024 season. They will compete in Tracy, Minnesota on Thursday, September 5th. Go Warriors!!
