By Allie Paulzine, Student Reporter In a thrilling display of speed and endurance, the MCC/F Warrior athletes took to the course this past Thursday, October, 3rd for the BOLD/BLHS Annual Cross Country Meet. Runners from BOLD, Community Christian, G-F-W, Holy Family Catholic, MACCRAY/ RCW, MCC/ Fulda, Redwood Valley, Sibley East, Wabasso, and YME showcased their skills. They not only battled the course but also each other, competing for top places. As the dust settled, standout performances highlighted the races, setting the stage for an exciting second half of the season with conference meets and sections quickly approaching.
In a fiercely competitive race, the MCC/F girls’ team, though small in numbers with only four runners, put forth an impressive effort. Each athlete demonstrated determination and grit as they navigated the course. Mara Clarke finished seventh with a time of 20:43. Clarke, as only an eighth grader, is once again leading the Warrior girls. Sophia Nelson was the second top ten finisher for the Warrior girls, crossing the finish line in ninth in 20:45. Ruth Ethridge completed the race placing 22nd finishing strong with a time of 23:41. Seventh grader, Isabela Schreier rounded out the team with a time of 25:29 securing 32nd place. Despite the challenge of having only four runners, the spirit and teamwork displayed by the MCC/F girls’ team runners were commendable.
Next up for the team is the boy’s varsity race, where they’re aiming to build on their performance and continue to improve. The boys showcased their resilience and teamwork, finishing in a tie for second place with Sibley East, scoring a total of 62 points. With seven runners competing, their collective effort was a testament to their determination and skill. Evan Bumgardner led the team, once again, with a strong finish, placing 4th with a time of 16:54. Mathew Stapek (17:29) contributed significantly to the team score, finishing seventh. Alexander Betz crossed the finish line in 11th place, clocking in at 17:51. Caleb Appel finished strong in 15th place with a time of 18:28. Beckett Stelter (19:25) completed the race in 25th place contributing valuable points. Tyler Reith (19:48) was two places behind Stelter to secure 27th place, showcasing notable improvement. Aiden Appel rounded out the team effort, finishing in 29th with a time of 19:53. The boy’s had a great team performance that highlighted their strong finishes in a competitive field and their abilities to work together as a unit.
The boys junior high cross country team delivered a strong performance at their recent meet, securing second place with a total of 53 points. Leading the charge, Alex Kueny finished with an impressive time of 19:57 placing ninth, closely followed by Zach Kirchner at 20:24 in thirteenth . In 17th, Blaine Braun clocked in at 21:25, while Carter Knakmuhs and Allen Ahrens rounded out the team’s efforts with times of 21:56 and 22:07, respectively. The team’s determination and teamwork were evident as they competed against tough teams, showcasing their hard work and commitment to the season.
The Warrior boys junior high cross country team delivered an impressive performance at the recent meet, showcasing their talent and determination. Micah Janssen led the charge, finishing in 3rd place with a strong time of 9:35. Close behind him, Garret Reith secured 7th place, clocking in at 10:23. Connor Pieske and Carter Larson followed, finishing 9th and 11th respectively, with times of 10:37 and 10:39. Carson Sykora also contributed to the team effort, placing 14th with a time of 11:16. Bobby Keller rounded out the team’s performance, finishing 23rd in 12:51. Overall, the team demonstrated teamwork and sportsmanship, setting a solid foundation for the rest of the season.
The Warriors had an impressive meet showcasing lots of talent and perseverance. They will compete next on Tuesday October 8th at the Adrian Golf Course. Go Warriors!!
