Clean out your shelves and make room for the holidays. The Slayton Public Library will hold a three-day donation drive on Friday, Saturday, and Monday, November 7, 8, and 10, 2025. Donations can be dropped off in the Community Room anytime during open hours. While small donations are accepted year-round, these dates are the perfect opportunity to bring larger batches of books, movies, and more. Please note, the library is closed on Tuesday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day. Do not leave donations outside the building.
The library welcomes clean, odor-free items in good condition, including hardcover and paperback books, large print books, recent magazines (2023–current), DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs, puzzles, board games, and small craft or office supplies. The library cannot accept damaged items, textbooks, encyclopedias, or regular-print Reader’s Digest Condensed Books. Full donation guidelines are available at slaytonlibrary.org/donations.
Then, the doors open to the bi-annual Used Book Sale, on Wednesday through Saturday, November 12–15, and Monday, November 17, during regular library hours (Monday–Friday 10:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.)
Book sale prices range from 50 cents to $2.00, with the final day featuring the popular $5-per-bag special. Shoppers can pay with cash, local checks, or money orders. Credit, debit, and digital payments are not accepted. All proceeds directly support the library’s collections, programs, and community projects.
Donations are paused during the book sale but will resume afterward. Community members are also encouraged to volunteer to help set up or pack up the sale or to become a Friend of the Slayton Public Library to support future programs and events.
