The Slayton United Methodist Church Outreach team has been working hard to bring back an old tradition. The Cradle Roll originated in 1877, as a birthday list. The real purpose of the Cradle Roll is to secure cooperation between the home and the church in the training of the child during the first few years of life. To bring to the parents a service of their greatest responsibilities toward the child and his or her relationship to God, church and community.
Pictured is the Cradle with one of our newest blessed children; Jocelynn Opdahl. Her parents are Kaitlyn and Joshua Opdahl. She also has two brothers Dominic and Damien. The two girls rocking her are Aleigha and Maddie Schroeder. We will be hosting a Cradle Roll on April 6, 2024 at the Methodist Church, 2764 Broadway Ave. It will take place in the basement. The time will be from 1-3 pm. We invite anyone interested to call and register their baby. We will be rocking babies aged from newborn to 2 years of age. Our records show the first baby rocked was September 20, 1955. More than 200 babies have been rocked over the past years.
We would like to invite any new parents, grandparents, or friends to register and come and rock your baby. There will be a small program, which will include the rocking of each baby, a poem, a candle lighting and in the end stay and have a coffee or juice and a cupcake.
