For the second time this season, the Rebel Track team ventured to Pipestone. Last time, not only did they have to battle the other competitors but also the elements that included temperatures in the 40s and winds of 30+ mph. Fortunately this time, conditions were close to ideal making it a day to see some great performances. Participating schools included Luverne, Hills-Beaver Creek, Southwest Christian/Edgerton, Russell-Tyler-Ruthon, Tracy Area, Murray County Central and host Pipestone Area.
The Rebel girls found a lot of their success in the mid and long distance races. The 4x800 relay team of Megan Bakke, Sophia Nelson, Ashley Overguaaw and Amanda Overguaaw placed second to a very talented Luverne team. Ashley and Sophia also ran in the open 800 and were joined by Brylei Schreier. Ashley placed first overall while Brylei and Sophia were 2nd and 4th, running personal best times. Schreier and the Overguaaws along with Brealyn Damm teamed up in the 4x400 relay to place 3rd. Amanda’s third race on the day was the 2 mile where she convincingly won by 2 minutes. Lily Daniels ran a personal best to place 6th in the mile run.
Senior sprinter Ryanna Schreier pulled away at the end to win the 100 meter dash.Cassidy Johnson and Carlye Larson had fine days in their field events with Johnson placing 5th in the discus and Larson 5th in the pole vault.
On the boy’s side, they were led by their sprinters and hurdlers. Senior Brock Smith had four top six finishes on the day; 6th in the long jump, 5th in the 400 (PR), 5th in the 200, and 4th in the 100 (PR). Fellow senior Ryan Risacher also had a successful day placing 4th in the 200, 4th in the 110 hurdles (running them for the first time), and ran a personal best time placing 2nd in the 300 hurdles. Joining Ryan in the hurdles was Ben Ahlers-6th in the 110s and Ashton Kalas-4th in the 300s and 3rd in the 110s.
Overall, it was a great day for the Rebel tracksters as many of them had season and/or personal best results. The athletes and coaches will be preparing for the Dick Davidson Invite and True Team meet coming up within the next week.
