SOFTBALL TEAM LOSES IN LAST OUT OF GAME

The MCC Rebels wrapped up their Red Rock Conference schedule on Monday when they played at Edgerton.

The Rebels finished the season in third place in the conference with Edgerton Southwest Christian taking the title and Mountain Lake Area Comfrey finishing in second place.

MCC was looking to pull off the upset on Monday to maybe move them up in sub-section seeding for next week’s tournaments. The Rebels played one of, if not their best all-around games of the season but it would come down to the very last out.

Thea Schneider got the start for the Rebels and she pitched well overall. Edg/SWC scored a run in the first inning on an error and a single by Paris Van Dyke. The Rebels quickly countered with a home run in the second inning by Atalie Rosenbrook. The Flying Dutchmen took the lead back in the third inning on a single and some good base running by Anna Veldkamp and a Rebel error.

MCC had some runners on base, and in the top of the 7th inning, the Rebels would tie the game on a home run by Abby Loosbrock, making the score 2-2. The Flying Dutchmen picked up the win in the bottom of the 7th when a walk, a groundout, and a single by Brenalyn Smit would score the game-winning run with two outs.

The Rebels combined for 7 hits with the two biggest hits being the home runs by Rosenbrook and Loosbrock. Rosenbrook led the Rebels with 2 hits. The Flying Dutchmen made some key plays when the Rebels had runners in scoring position in two key innings.

Paris Van Dyke pitched well, walking just one batter and striking out 13. Thea Schneider took the loss for the Rebels but she didn’t allow an earned run, while striking out 6 and walking just 2. The Rebels outhit Edg/ SWC 7 to 6.

The Rebels will play three games in Edgerton on Wednesday before wrapping up the Regular season with road games in Tyler and Tracy on Thursday and Friday. Tournaments begin on the 23rd of May.
