An extensive discussion was held between Slayton City Council members and owners of multi-unit housing regarding the recent rate change to $55.00 per month per dwelling unit, with water usage of $4.00 per 1,000 gallons. The new rate structure went into effect for January 2026 usage.
The utility bill due date was changed from the 15th to the 20th of the month.
The council approved Resolution 03-02-2026 Local Government Application Resolution for the City of Slayton. This resolution is for the 2026 Small Cities Development Program (SCDP) Grant Project. which is for owner-occupied housing rehabilitation. $521,640 was requested by the City of Slayton from the SCDP.
Approved was the hiring of Alejandro Perez Rodriguez for the position of police officer for the City of Slayton.
Slayton Youth Baseball Association requested approval to hold a raffle at Bi-Centennial Park on May 26th, 2026. The request was approved.
The board heard from the Youth Baseball Association Board regarding the installation of bases, benches and backstops on the current Wiffle Ball Court to allow for more young players to be able to have a practice field. Numbers of players have increased, and softball is now offered to expanded grade levels.
The Youth Baseball Association Board is hopeful that the raffle on May 26th will pay for most of the expenses. A motion was made and approved that the responsibility of the costs will be that of the Youth Baseball Association Board, with the City of Slayton helping with the ag lime and manpower, contingent on availability.
Approved were all applications for renewal of liquor licenses, with the exception of Backyard Barbecue.
