SLAYTON CITY COUNCIL APPROVES SUMMER POOL AND REC EMPLOYEES

Slayton City Council met on Monday, May 2nd. The agenda was approved and the minutes from the April 18th meeting were reviewed and approved. The claims for the month were also approved.

City Administrator Josh Malchow provided the Council with an update on the broadband grant. The environmental study has come back. There are a few things that Malchow needs to double check and then it can be submitted, and they can move on to the next phase of the project which is going out for RFP. City Councilmember Kate Harmsen asked about the food truck license. Malchow stated he is still waiting to hear back from Pipestone on a sample copy of their application.

There was one item of old business to discuss and that was the variance appeal for Doug Rupp on the properties of 2206 and 2216 Oak. Rupp would like to build on these but there are a number of factors the Council is concerned about. The slope of the land, entrances and exits into the building, plans for the sewer line that runs through the property and what the one lot is going to be used for. The lots were originally zoned residential and sit on the edge of a residential area with people’s homes facing it. The Council agreed that the topic of the sewer location and possible reroute of the line is the main concern. They need to find out if the movement of the line is beneficial to the city or not and this would decide who is fiscally responsible for the project. They will look into this further before making a decision on the request from Rupp for a zoning variance. More info will come at a future meeting.

Moving on to new business, the Council approved the summer Pool and Park staff. Those include returning staff of: Elissa Wieneke, Connor DeGreeff, Christian Tentinger, Owen Gillette, Abe Paulzine, Krista Gillette, Emma Johnson, Sophie Larson, Ella Gillette, Zoey Iverson, Karissa Hurd, Briana Engelkes, Kahlen Larsen, Lauren Larson, Brealyn Damm, Dawson Blankenship, Lily Daniels, Andrew Holm, Brynn Graphenteen, Grace Buesing, Carlye Larson, Atalie Rosenbrook, Evan Burch, Gavin Gillette, Torin Thunder Hawk, and Sophia Nelson.

The Council also approved the recommendation to accept the bid from Reker Construction from Adrian, MN for the Airport Drive Entrance reconstruct project contingent upon the State coming up with the additional funds for the project.

With no other business, the meeting was adjourned.
