Slayton City Council approved the installation of electricity in the shed at the Soccer Field during their Monday evening meeting. Engelkes Electric, LLC., will be doing the installation work. The Murray County United Soccer Program will be responsible for the cost of the installation. They will maintain the electrical service and pay all associated monthly utility charges.
Chris Webb, Southwest Regional Development Commission, visited with the council regarding the Safe Streets 4 All Grant Application that is due on May 26, 2026. The grant is through the Department of Transportation and is for the first portion of the project which is the Claiming and Design Work. The entire process needs community engagement to learn how people travel to and from school (walking, biking, etc.,) as well as where crashes occur within the city. Two or three intersections within the city of Slayton would be included within the plan. The council voted to join in on the grant application at a cost of $1,500.
Approved was a power washer purchase for $14,135 from PSI Powerwashers, Inc, Wilmont, MN.
Small Cities Development Grant Administration for the city of Slayton’s Owner Occupied Rehabilitation and General Grant Administration will be coordinated by Development Services, Inc. Fees for their services will be $98,246 with $78,248 of that amount paid by the SCDP grant program. The remaining $20,000 would be due from the City of Slayton.
Regarding the Slayton Senior Center Grant Bathroom Remodel Project, a bid was submitted by Trevor Rosenbrook Construction at a cost of $25,192.20. The grant for the remodel is through the MDE Capital Projects Fund Grant (Federal Compliance Required). The estimated construction start dates will be in June or July with completion by July or August of this year.
A pool table, and all of the associated items which were formerly in use at the Slayton Senior Center, are being declared as Surplus Items by the council.
A Board of Equalization meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 29th, at 7 p.m.
Slayton City Council’s next regular meeting is set for Monday, May 4, 2026 at 6 p.m.
