SLAYTON AREA COMMUNITY BAND ANNUAL BAND CHRISTMAS CONCERT

The Annual Community Band Christmas Concert will be held Sunday, December 3 at 3:00 PM. This event will be held at the MCC High School Auditorium. There will be a free will offering taken for the Murray County food shelves, monetary and canned goods. This concert will be packed with excitement! Not only will the Community Band be playing, but you will also hear the West Elementary Rebel Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Christie Gergen and the High School Rebel Voices, under the direction of Mrs. Rachel Sheldahl!

The Community Band will begin the concert with the following selections: “Fanfare for Christmas” by James Curnow, “Cannon for Christmas” (Based upon Canon in D) by Larry Clark, “A Coventry Christmas” by Larry Neeck, “Jingle Jazz” by David Shaffer.

The West Elementary Rebel Choir will continue the concert with their carefully selected songs. They will be singing “Sing Out, It’s Christmas!” by Douglas E. Wagner, “Win-ter Lights” by Audrey Snyder, “Love Came Down” by Ruth Morris Gray, and “Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!” by Mary Donnelly and George L. O. Strid. The West Elementary Rebel Choir is a group of dedicated 5th and 6th grade students that wish to learn more than they would in the general music program. Mrs. Aleida Helgeson will be our accompanist.

“A Legend of Kings” by Charles Richard Spinney will open the Community Band’s second set of pieces followed by “A Christmas Hymn” by Robert W. Smith. Ending the set will be “A Classical Christmas” Arr. by David Marshall.

The High School Rebel Voices will be taking the stage next and singing the following: “Carol of the Bells” by Peter J Wilhousky, “See the Baby” by Jay Althouse, and “Swing Into Christmas” by Mac Huff. We hope you enjoy these young voices!

The concert will conclude with the Community Band playing three more pieces. They are as follows: “And to All a Good Night” Arr. by Robert W. Smith and Michael Story, “We Need a Little Christmas” by Jerry Herman Arr. by Ted Ricketts, and “Christmas Sing-A-Long” Arr. by James D. Ployhar.
