The 2022 golf season was not ideal due to cold and rainy spring weather. Many courses were unplayable or had very wet conditions early in the season. However, that didn’t stop MCC’s golfers from shooting for their goals for the year. The girl’s team had many returners with varsity experience. They would go on to win a few meets throughout the season. The Rebels earned the Section 3A title, and placed 7th at the Class A State Tournament. The boys had many returning, as well as some new players. They were able to do well individually, but struggled as a team against a tough conference line-up.

Coach DeLong stated, “Watching the girl’s team find a way to finish strong at the Section meet to earn the Section 3A title and the opportunity to golf in the state tournament was undeniably the highlight of the season and a remarkable accomplishment. Overall we have had growth and success in both the boy’s and girl’s programs and are looking forward to being competitive in our conference next year.”

MCC’s girls represented well at the Class A State Tournament. The girl’s team finished in 7th place among the state’s top teams. Ciera Tutt led for the Rebels carding a 197 and finishing tied for 32nd place out of 85 golfers. At the MN State Class A Golf Banquet the girl’s team was named Section 3 Academic Champions as well as the State Champions out of the eight sections! Senior Ciera Tutt received the senior academic award by having a 3.75 GPA and playing in the first round of the State Tournament (Sections).

With a lot of young players on both teams, MCC hopes to have more successful seasons to come.

At the end of the season banquet, Most Improved Golfer honors went to Rachael Huso and Dawson Schreier. Both of these golfers improved their season-low average from 2021 to 2022; Rachael by 14 strokes and Dawson by five strokes. However, the entire MCC golf team made huge improvements throughout the season. Low Average honors went to McKade Gillette and Ciera Tutt. These two players held the lowest average scores throughout the entire season. Coach De-Long thanked the two seniors again for their dedication, and also thanked the returning golfers for their commitment to the successful golf program.

The 2022 season was another tough year for weather. Many teams and golfers had to reschedule a number of meets and play in poor conditions, which made staying focused on their goals difficult. In the end, the Rebels rose to the occasion and had a strong season. Just like any program, the golf team is excited to have many returners, as well as new faces, join next year. The players and coaches hope to continue their streak of success and have a strong 2023 season.
