REGIONAL SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONAL CONFERENCE HELD

By Cassandra Gohman, Staff Development and Low Incidence Administrator, SWWC Service Cooperative The SWWC Special Education Department hosted the Knowledge Empowers You! Paraprofessional Conference on August 9, 2023, at the Worthington High School.

A total of 319 paraprofessionals attended from districts around the region including Adrian, Edgerton, Ellsworth, Fulda, Hendricks, Hills-Beaver Creek, Jackson County Central, Lake Benton, Luverne, Murray County Central, Mountain Lake, Pipestone, Red Rock Central, SWWC’s Educational Learning Centers, Tracy, Worthington, and Westbrook-Walnut Grove.

Paraprofessionals participated in a general session covering annual training requirements, followed by concurrent breakout sessions covering topics such as Data Collection, Basic First Aid, Supporting Challenging Behaviors, Fostering Independence, Trauma Informed Care, Engagement Strategies, Making Sense of Sensory Breaks, Self-Care and Mental Health, Science of Reading, Math Strategies, Disability Categories, and more.
