The Rebel volleyball team was back in action as they traveled to coach Katie Furth’s home turf in Lamberton to take on the Red Rock Central Falcons.
Coming off a loss in five contentious sets against Adrian/ Ellsworth, MCC started off game one a little rocky but found confidence after an all too familiar time out early in the set.
The Rebels fell behind early before gaining a side out after coach Furth called for a time out, getting the girls back on track. Senior leader Casey Miller was able to stretch her service streak to 16-11 before a time out ended the run. MCC held off the Falcons taking game one, 25-15.
Red Rock battled back in game two behind Sondra Reinfleisch. She set the pace for the Falcons going on a 9-0 run from the service line before eventually taking the second set, 25-20 over MCC.
Rebel woes kept coming in game three – Atalie Rosenbrook tried to rekindle the fire adding two more much needed kills to the four she had in the second set, but it was too little too late, MCC falls in game three to Red Rock, 12-25.
Furth turned to her bench in game four and five as we saw new faces, Emma Schuur (5 kills) and Ella Gillette from the service line.
The Rebels led most of game four as Rosenbrook stayed hot and teammate Abby Loosbrock provided a much needed first line of defense at the net charting six blocks, two of them for aces. MCC held off the Falcons and took game four, 25-23 on a net call on Red Rock.
Game five was a true conference battle, point for point, but the Rebels put together a stretch of points behind Kate Slettum before RRC called for its first timeout.
MCC’s bench was electric as they watched Rosenbrook continue to shine, pounding down three more kills in the short set. Points 12-13-14 were traded back and forth before MCC took back the serve bringing Ella Gillette to the line, 15-14 Rebels. Serve is up...it’s an Ace! Rebels win the match, 16-- 14.
