The MCC Rebels were at home for the second consecutive week on Friday, playing host to the Saint James Area Saints. The Rebels entered the game 2-2 on the season. The Rebels got a comfortable win in week one over LQPV but the next three games have all come down to the final minute of play, with the Rebels losing two of the three games. Saint James Area was 1-3 on the year with one of their losses coming by just one point to Windom. The Rebels wouldn’t allow this game to be close, as the Rebels defense was terrific and the offense played as well as it has all year.

The Rebels scored five touchdowns in the first half. It was a dominating performance, as the Rebels scored on each of their five possessions. The running game was strong throughout the first half, getting a majority of the yards on the perimeter. Andrew Holm and Gavin Gillette found plenty of green grass in front of them. The Rebels blockers opened up big holes and the runners just had to run through them. The Rebels scored first on an Andrew Holm seven yard run midway through the first quarter which was followed by a two point conversion. The Rebels forced a punt and after a good return, Carson Lewis finished off the short drive with a four yard run.The extra point made the score 15-0 at the end of one.

The Rebels did not slow down in the second quarter. They forced a fumble from the Saints that was recovered by Carter Hansen and shortly thereafter, Gavin Gillette scored on one of the first plays of the second quarter. The extra point made the score 22 to 0. The Rebels came back with more points as Teague Meyer intercepted a pass on a 4th down throw and scored on a 61 yard touchdown run to make the score 29-0. The Rebels got the ball back late in the second quarter and the Rebels ran some no huddle offense. Teague Meyer finished the drive with a 24 yard touchdown pass to Gavin Gillette. The Rebels led at the half 36 to 0.

The second half was a much faster half than the first, as MCC used the clock as much as possible, while the Saints struggled to get through the MCC defense. The Rebels scored on their first possession of the third quarter as Gavin Gillette had a 32 yard touchdown run, with the extra point making the score 430. The Rebels were able to play their B-squad the entire fourth quarter and though they failed to score they didn’t allow points either. The Rebels got the win 43-0.

The Rebels top 4 ball carriers ran for between 57 and 91 yards. The Rebels showed great balance, both in terms of number of carries and yards. MCC was able to run the ball well right, left and up the middle. Teague Meyer ran for 91 yards, Gavin Gillette 86, Andrew Holm 70, and Carson Lewis ran for 57. Gillette led the Rebels with 3 touchdowns 2 rushing and 1 receiving. The Rebels defense allowed just 146 total yards from the Saints, while forcing two turnovers. The Rebels will play next at Tracy on Friday night in the teams 6th game of the season.
