Monday, May 6 MCC vs. RRC/WWG

The MCC Rebel Softball team began its busiest week of the season with six games scheduled to take place, beginning on Monday in Walnut Grove. Then games against MLAC and HLOF, before a Saturday tournament in Wabasso that will include 3 games. For the Rebels, getting wins and limiting pitches was key for the week. Monday, the Rebels played the RRC/WWG Falcons and MCC got the win.

The Rebels got started in the second inning when Morgan Winter singled to left field and after a strikeout, Elyse Paulzine singled to center field to put runners on first and second. The Rebels scored the first run of the game when Kate Blankenship doubled, scoring Winter. Ava Deacon then singled to center, scoring two runs. Emmi Peltola also singled, to drive in the Rebel’s fourth run of the inning. The Rebels scored another run in the top of the third inning when Morgan Winter hit her second home run of the season. Winter’s solo shot put the Rebels on top 5-0 and they would fail to score another run in the game.

The Rebels played maybe their best defensive game of the season. The Rebels were able to create outs at second base and third. They made some good catches in the outfield and made the routine plays on the infield. Thea Schneider pitched a strong game for the Rebels allowing one run in the fifth inning. With MCC up 5 to 1, she gave up a couple of hits in the 7th inning, including doubles to Natalie Wahl and Mercedes Myers. The Rebels got the win, 5-3.

Thea Schneider picked up the win for MCC, pitching all seven innings, striking out 7 and allowing 6 hits. The Rebels never trailed in the game. The Rebels finished with eight hits, six of them were singles, with a double and a home run. Ava Deacon and Emmi Peltola had two hits each, with Deacon driving in two runs and Peltola driving in one. Morgan Winter had two hits and an RBI, while scoring two runs. The Rebels are now 7-1 on the season and will host MLAC Wolverines on Tuesday.

MCC vs. MLA/C Tuesday, May 7

The MCC softball team played their second game of the week on Tuesday in Slayton against the Wolverines of Mountain Lake Area Comfrey. The two teams played a week and a half ago with the Rebels getting the convincing win, but the Wolverines had several players back in the lineup Tuesday making them a better team. The Rebels would never trail in the game as they picked up another win.

The Rebels played a strong defensive game on Monday against RRC/WWG but they struggled on Tuesday, committing 7 errors in the game. Thea Schneider threw a solid game for the Rebels allowing just four hits while walking 2 and striking out 7, but the 7 errors moved baserunners around the bases and helped plate all of the MLAC runs.

The Rebels offense put together ten hits in the game, while the Wolverines also committed 7 errors. MCC scored in the first inning when Ava Deacon singled to left field and Emmi Peltola doubled to center to score Deacon. Deacon came up in the second inning and doubled to left field, scoring two runs. Deacon’s third hit was a single, but an error in left field allowed two runs to score as the Rebels opened up a lead in the 5th inning. The Rebels held on for the win 8-5.

The Rebels were led at the plate by Ava Deacon, who had her best hitting game of the season. The Rebel catcher had three hits, including a double with 3 RBIs. She also scored 2 runs. Morgan Winter and Calleigh Doeden had two hits each. The bottom of the Rebels lineup was dangerous, as the bottom three hitters reached base at least 2 times each with a combined 3 hits, 2 walks, and a hit by pitch. The Rebels’ busy week continues on Thursday with a trip to Okabena to take on the Coyotes of Heron Lake Okabena Fulda.
