Last Thursday, the boys traveled south to take on the Dragons of Adrian/Ellsworth in a huge conference matchup. Both teams sitting on top of the conference, this game had the feeling of a playoff game. The Rebels jumped off to an early 5-0 lead after the top of the 1st.
Peyton Coulter was the Rebels starting pitcher for the day. He allowed the Dragons to score two runs in the bottom of the first frame. In the top of the 2nd the rebels high powered offense was held in check. The bottom of the second, the Dragons used a couple of timely hits and errors by the Rebels to take a 6-5 lead heading into the top of the 3rd. The Rebels quickly answered those runs putting up a four spot in the top of the 3rd, which included Christian Tentinger’s first homerun of the season.
With the lead, the Dragons added a few more runs in the bottom of the third with a homerun of their own, shrinking the Rebels lead to 9-8. In the top of the fourth inning the Rebels bat exploded for six runs. Which included three homeruns in the inning by Christian Tentinger’s second of the game, Carter Benda and Connor DeGreeff both hit homers in the inning to help the Rebels pull away. In relief for the Rebels pitching was Abe Paulzine who picked up the win going 4 innings, allowing four hits, one run, and striking out five tough Dragon hitters.
The final score Rebels 19 Dragons 9. The Rebels smashed 17 hits on the day, with every starter collecting at least one hit. With multiple Rebel hitters collecting a pair of timely hits. With the huge conference win, the Rebels sit atop of the Red Rock Conference.
