The MCC Rebels were three and one entering Thursdays game in Slayton versus Edgerton Southwest Minnesota Christian. The Rebels were hoping to beat the Flying Dutchmen to put them in first place in the Red Rock Conference but that wasn’t to be. Edg/ SWC was coming in ready to hit from pitch one. The Rebels found out firsthand why the Flying Dutchmen have been the conference champions year in and year out.
When you play Edg/SWC you have to find a way to hit the ball against one of the most consistent pitching staffs in the area. The Dutchmen always have a top pitcher and one waiting to take over when the top pitcher graduates. Paris Van Dyke is the latest ace and she is one of the top pitchers in Class A softball in the state. She would limit the Rebels to 2 hits and 2 runs in the game. The two hits were big ones with Abby Loosbrock hitting her first career homerun and Mary Lou McNab connecting on a double. The second run scored by the Rebels was an unearned run off an error on a Loosbrock ground ball.
At the plate, Edg/SWC can beat you by hitting the ball deep, but they can also bunt and slap the ball around the infield when they need to. What makes them tough to stop, is in a low-scoring game they don’t often get frustrated, allowing them to get a 1-0 win or a 3 to 2 win. This wasn’t one of those games, as Edg/Swc pounded the ball for 10 runs in the first two innings, six in the first and four in the second. Thea Schneider wouldn’t get out of the second inning, but Mary Lou McNab came into the game and pitched well for the Rebels, allowing just one run until the sixth inning when she allowed 3 runs. Edg/SWC picked up the win 13-2.
Thea Schneider took the loss, allowing 6 runs on 9 hits in one inning. Paris Van Dyke picked up the win, pitching 6 innings allowing 2 hits and 2 runs while striking out 6. Mary Lou McNab had a double and Abby Loosteam brock homered for the Rebels. The Rebels have a busy week coming up with 4 games in 5 days. Monday in Mountain Lake, Tuesday at home against Heron Lake Okabena Fulda, Thursday at RRC/WWG, and Friday at Lakeview. The Rebels will look to get back on the winning track with plenty of opportunities to do it.
