REBELS HOST SOUTH SUBSECTION MEET

The MCC Rebels Track and Field program hosted the 2024 3A South SubSection Track and Field meet on Thursday, May 23rd. Teams participating included; Luverne, Pipestone, Hills-Beaver Creek, SWC-Edgerton, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton, Russell-Tyler-Ruthon, Adrian-Ellsworth, and Murray County Central. The top four finishers in every event would automatically advance to the section meet along with the next four best performances from the three subsections.

The first running events for the day were the 4x800 relays. The girls team, consisting of Lindsey Hause, Erynn Rohrer, Lily Daniels, and Charu Paulzine placed 6th in the subsections but their overall time was good enough to qualify for the section meet. The boys squad of freshman Beckett Stelter, Wesley Hause, Henry Carlson and Alex Betz placed 4th, automatically qualifying them for the section meet.

Sprint hurdlers Brealyn Damm and Carter Knakmuhs both qualified for the section meet with Damm placing 4th and Knakmuhs making it by time after placing 5th. Lindsey Hause placed 3rd in the 300 hurdles earning herself a spot at sections.

The lone running individual running subsection champion came from Brylei Schreier winning the 400 with a season best 60.88. Schreier also qualified in the 200 where she placed 3rd. Another sprinter moving on individually is Anikan Larson. Larson placed 2nd with a personal best time of 22.93.

In the distance races, Sophia Nelson was runner up in the 800 while Alex Betz placed 3rd in the men’s. Holland Vogel was 3rd in the 3200m.

The boys 4x100 relay (Thomas Huso, Anikan Larson, Luke Iverson, Andrew Holm), despite bobbling a handoff, qualified by time after placing 5th. Both genders 4x200 teams qualified by time. The girls team of Brealyn Damm, Jayda Hellewell, Abby Overman and Courtney Gengler placed 5th while the boys team of Luke Iverson, Alex Betz, Carson Englekes and Andrew Holm placed 7th. Both 4x400 teams also will be competing in the section meet. The girls team (Lindsey Hause, Reese Gilbertson, Sophia Nelson, and Abby Overman) placed 5th, qualifying by time with the boys team (Beckett Stelter, Carson Englekes, Andrew Holm, and Anikan Larson) automatically qualified with their 4th place finish.

In the field events, high jumpers Lindsey Hause and Torin ThunderHawk qualified after placing 4th and 6th. Jayda Hellewell was runner up in the triple jump. Discus throwers Callie Platt and Carson Engelkes advanced by performance after both placing 6th. Three Rebels will be participating in the section pole vault, as Chloe Kremer and Luke Iverson qualified on performance with 6th and 5th place finishes while freshman Caleb Rosenbrook was the subsection champion with a vault of 10’10”.

The section meet will be hosted in Luverne on Thursday, May 30th. The top 2 finishers, along with anyone that meets state standard performance, will qualify for the state meet.

The Rebel Track and Field team would like to thank all the meet workers that worked, not only at the subsection meet, but the other home meets, too. It takes over thirty people to run a meet like subsections. Their time and expertise is greatly appreciated.
