The Rebels finished the regular season on Friday in Ellsworth, in what would become a strange event both in play and in outcome. This game was scheduled to be played earlier, but Mother Nature did not allow that to happen and she would be involved in this game as well.

The Adrian Area Dragons scored first, but not before putting runners on base in the first and second innings while failing to score. In the third inning, the Dragons scored four runs. Three singles, two errors, and a sacrifice would lead to the runs being scored. In the top of the fourth inning, the Rebels answered back with three runs. Atalie Rosenbrook singled in two runs and Elyse Paulzine ground out to second base, which scored another run for MCC to make the score 4-3. Brekkyn Dreessen put the Dragons back up three runs with a two-run homer to center field in the 4th inning, making the score 6-3. Morgan Winter got the Rebels a run back in the 5th inning with a single, making the score 6-4.

Things would then get interesting, as the Rebels, trailing by two, came to the plate in the 6th inning and MCC exploded. The Rebels got a walk and a couple of base hits to tie the game. Morgan Winter then stepped to the plate with the Rebels tied. She pounded her fourth homer of the season. The grand slam to left field put the Rebels ahead 10-6. The Dragons answered in the bottom of the 6th, with the second home run of the game from Dreessen, to lead off the inning. With the score in favor of the Rebels 10-7, the game was delayed due to lightning and then rain. After waiting nearly half an hour, the game was called by the umpires. With the game being called in the middle of an inning, the game reverts to the last completed inning which was the 5th inning meaning the Rebels would lose 6-4, like the 6th inning didn’t happen.

It was a tough loss for MCC, clearly due to the fact the bats came alive late in the game, but things like this can happen. The Rebel’s lack of early success cost them in this game and the Dragons got the win. Earlier in the day, the Rebels were given the 4th seed in the Section 3A South Subsection and will play the BOLD Warriors on Thursday in Edgerton at 4:30. The Rebels must beat BOLD to move ahead into the double elimination rounds of the section playoffs. If the Rebels win game one Thursday, they will play the winner of Edg/ SWC and Lakeview. The win in game one would also guarantee games in Marshall on Saturday.
