The MCC Rebel football season continued on Friday night in Adrian. The Rebels, coming off a seven-point win against Windom Area took on the Adrian Ellsworth Dragons who were coming off a one-point win against St James. Both teams took the field with two wins and one loss but at the end of the night someone would be 3-1 and the other would be 2-2. The Rebels were hoping to be the latter.

Things looked good for the Rebels early in the game as the Rebels took control early. The Rebels forced a turnover on the first Dragon possession when Teague Meyer, making his first start at safety on defense for the Rebels, intercepted a pass from Aiden Tweet at midfield. The Rebels Ross Engelkes on the very first offensive play for the Rebels, busted a 50-yard touchdown run. The extra point by Carson Engelkes made the score 7-0 and that didn’t change throughout the first quarter.

The second quarter would be filled with yellow penalty flags for the Rebels which stopped their offense from doing much of anything at all. It certainly stopped any chances of scoring. The Dragons, on the other hand, got momentum in the running game which led to Aiden Tweet scoring on two touchdown runs. The first score was a 13-yard run followed by an extra point by Cheick Zeba to tie the game with 6:47 left in the first half. Three minutes later Tweet would score on a 37yard run but the extra point was blocked by the Rebels to make the halftime score 13 to 7.

The Rebels came out strong in the second half, driving the field in a handful of plays led by Ross Engelkes. The Rebels would have the game tied at 13-13 just three minutes into the second half as Engelkes scored on a one-yard run. The game was tied until the fourth quarter when Tweet took a 4th down and 11 play and ran 16 yards for a touchdown to put the Dragons ahead 19 to 13. The Rebels would try to rally once again. MCC forced the Dragons into a fourth and long in their own end of the field so the Dragons lined up to punt. The snap was high and Aiden Tweet was able to pick up the ball but he was unable to punt and the Rebels got two points on a safety with 2:08 to play. The Rebels got the ball at the 47-yard line and began to drive the field, led by Engelkes and Meyer. The Rebels would have a 2nd down and 4 just inside the 25-yard line. With the clock ticking down Teague Meyer dropped back to pass, but it was deflected off a helmet and intercepted by Charger Erlandson. The interception would end the Rebels chances as Adrian Ellsworth won the game 19 to 15.

Each team turned the ball over one time in the game but the Rebels committed 4 more penalties than the Dragons and that would be a killer for the Rebels. Adrian Ellsworth ended a seven-game losing streak to the Rebels. The Rebels were led by Teague Meyer who ran for 123 yards while Ross Engelkes ran 14 times for 109 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Dragons only had 8 passing yards but the running game was led by Aiden Tweet and Rilee Heidebrink, both of whom ran for over 100 yards. The Rebels will play at St James against the Saints Friday night.
