The MCC Rebels were in Bertha, Minnesota for a weekend tournament to face teams they wouldn’t normally face in a tournament closer to home. It gave the team a chance to bond and play some competitive volleyball. This would be the first of back to back weekends of tournament volleyball, as the Rebels will play in the Jimmy Johns Classic in Marshall this coming Friday and Saturday.

The Rebels started the tournament with the host team, Bertha Hewitt. The Rebels won two games to nothing, 2522 and 25 to 18. The Rebels played Hancock next, beating them two games to one in their second game. The Rebels then took down Parkers Prairie 2521 and 25-20. This advanced the Rebels to the championship game to play Hillcrest Lutheran Academy, a team that was undefeated on the season. Hillcrest beat MCC 25 to 14 and 25 to 18. The Rebels took second place in a solid showing. The Rebels beat two teams with winning records in the tournament, bouncing back after two tough conference losses earlier in the week.

In the four games played on Saturday, Suttyn Schryvers and Reese Gilbertson led the Rebels in kills in three of the games. Thea Schneider led the Rebels in kills in the fourth. Schryvers led the team in total kills on the day. Kelli Miller led the Rebels in assists in all four games with Thea Schneider second in each. The Rebels Lila Scandrett was put in the starting lineup and the junior stepped up, playing well in her first varsity starting assignments. The Rebels will be back in action on Tuesday night against the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen.
