October 5th, MCC volleyball’s final home match and the team’s Dig Pink night for breast cancer awareness, brought a non conference contest with the Lakeview Lakers.
The Rebels secured a much needed win in five sets against a well matched team in the Lakers. MCC took set one, 25-20, fell dismally in the second set, 1225 before finding their stride in the middle of set 3, 23-25, forcing a fifth and deciding set, 25-23 in the fourth. The Rebels look to Abby Loosbrock and Kelli Miller to keep the serve through two time outs and a final 15-12 victory.
Neither team came out of the gate on fire, but in game one it was MCC that pulled ahead at the end of the first rotation behind Emmi Peltola serving. Loosbrock added a couple aces in her term at the service line before Lakeview’s own libero threatened late in the game, but the Rebels time out talk claimed the win.
In set two, MCC struggled with serve-receive against an aggressive Hinz and Rausch duo. Second set goes to the visitors, 25-12. Much better volleyball ensued in the third set, despite back to back net serves by both teams. Longer volleys entertained the fans through the following sets – and it was each team taking a win by two, 23-25 Lakeview and in the fourth set, 25-23 MCC.
MCC started out with a two point lead, recovered by the Lakers, 3-2 and the battle for points ensued. Rebel coaches needed to discuss options and take their only time out, 7-10. The side-out point pushed Loosbrock to the back row and in control of the ball. The Rebels regained the lead during her run, forcing a Lakeview timeout, 10-11.
They were able to snag bag the lead, but the Rebels were able to side out on a set by Slettum outside to Atalie Rosenbrook, bringing in setter Kelli Miller to the service line. A fault by the Lakers and the Rebels regained the lead, 13-12 and the Laker’s final time out. Miller connects with Rosenbrook for point 14 before an error by Lakeview ends the match.
