The MCC Rebel GIrls wrapped up their Edgerton week by playing at Edgerton Public on Thursday night (February 15). The Rebels were dominated by the Flying Dutchmen earlier this season in Slayton as Alyda Vande Griend destroyed MCC on both ends of the floor. The Rebels would try to turn things around on Thursday.
The Rebels have struggled this season to score points and that did not change on Thursday. Edgerton also struggled to score, as the Rebels defense remained strong but Edgerton hit the number the Rebels try to reach each game. MCC would score just 10 points in the first half. The Flying Dutchmen scored 31 points in the first half. The Rebels struggled with turnovers and their drives into the lane were, more often than not, turned away. Edgerton would lead at the half 31 to 10.
The second half was a very even contest, with both sides relying on their defense. The Dutchmen outscored the Rebels 19 to 18. The Rebel’s poor first half didn’t allow them to get back in the game. The Rebels four seniors scored just 7 points in the contest, while the three Dutchmen seniors combined for 22 points. Edgerton would get the win 50 to 28.
Edgerton dominated the stats in this game, as well as the scoreboard. Edgerton outshot the Rebels 32% to 23%. The Flying Dutchmen made 5 more free throws than MCC. The Dutchmen topped the Rebels in turnovers and rebounding as Edgerton pulled down 40 rebounds while committing 14 turnovers. The Rebels, on the other hand, had 23 rebounds and 23 turnovers. The Rebels were led in scoring by Thea Schneider and Elyse Paulzine who had 6 points each, while no other Rebel scored more than 3 points. Alyda Vande Griend and Elliot Fleischman scored 12 points each to lead Edgerton to the win. MCC will wrap up the regular season on Monday night at Lamberton.
