MCC’s girls represented very well at the Class A State Tournament. The Rebel lineup included Lauren Larson (Senior), Ava Johnson (Junior), Rachael Huso (Sophomore), Lizzie Daniels (Sophomore), and Natalie Einck (8th Grade). The girls played a practice round Monday morning to prepare for the challenging rounds ahead. The state tournament was set up with boys teeing off in the morning and girls in the afternoon. The boys experienced stormy conditions that interrupted their rounds in the morning both Tuesday and Wednesday, causing delays in the afternoon for the girls. On day two, a few groups of girls had to end their round early due to severe weather. Since those few groups were unable to finish, all girls had their hole 9 and hole 18 scores removed from their day two total.
Despite the weather impacting the tournament, the Rebels shot some great scores. Ava Johnson led the Rebels with a two day total of 174 finishing tied for 30th place. Johnson carded ten pars throughout both of her rounds and played with confidence even when she was in a tight spot. Rachael Huso finished right behind with a two day total of 176 landing her in 35th place out of 84 golfers. Lizzie Daniels also played well for the Rebels with a two day total of 198. MCC’s two day team score was 773 and they ended up finishing in 8th place. The Rebels were a little unsatisfied with how they finished, but are excited to continue improving so they can make another state appearance next year.
