The MCC Rebels were back at home on Monday for the first of three games this week. The Rebels played host to the HBC Patriots in a rematch of the Rebel’s biggest win of the season from two weeks ago. The Rebels on that night, fell behind early but would rally and finish the game strong for the win. Monday night the Rebels fell behind big and the Patriots wouldn’t look back.

The Rebels, for the second time in three games, fell behind big, 17-2. Brynn Rauk scored the first seven points of the game for the Patriots. Olivia Deelstra and Lanae Elbers scored a combined nine points as the Patriots pulled ahead. The Patriots went cold after scoring their first 17 points and only scored 6 points the rest of the half, but MCC couldn’t do enough to come back. The Rebels scored just 11 points in the first half with Jayda Hellewell scoring 8 points.

MCC turned the ball over 15 times in the first half and failed to make a three-point shot. The Patriots led at the half 23 to 11. The second half would see the Patriots extend their lead and though the Patriots didn’t have a big scoring night, their defense shut down the Rebels. MCC scored just one basket in the first nine minutes of the first half and in the second they would score just four points in that time. That’s six points in half of the game. The Rebels defense did play pretty well in the second half, but the Patriots made shots around the rim and free throws as they pulled away for the 49 to 24 win.

The Rebels made just ten shots from the field in the entire game. What was even worse for MCC, was that they made just two free throws. HBC on the other side of things, made 16 shots from the field and 16 free throws. The Rebels were led by Jayda Hellewell who scored 8 points, but fouled out with 5:31 to play in the game.

The Rebels second leading scorer was Thea Schneider, who had just 4 points. Lanae Elbers scored 11 for the Patriots and Emma Deelstra scored 10. The Rebels will play Thursday and Friday this week against Windom Area and WWG.
