The MCC Volleyball team was looking for their second win of the week on Thursday. The Rebels went to Hills Beaver Creek on Tuesday and came away with a convincing 3-0 win. Thursday, the Rebels would welcome Southwest Minnesota Christian to Slayton in another Red Rock Conference matchup. The Rebels once again put together a strong performance, getting the sweep over the Eagles.

The Rebels are not always the fastest starting team, as they often take some time to work into the game. Tuesday the Rebels had a fast start against HBC and on Thursday we again saw the quick start for MCC. The Rebels jumped out quickly, taking a 6-1 lead. The first portion of the game, the Rebels offense was coming from Reese Gilbertson. The sophomore had 5 kills very early in the game. She played with so much confidence, it appeared as if any time she got to swing at the ball, she would find the floor, and most of the time she did. The Rebels Kate Blankenship and Ava Deacon played some great defense along the back line as the Rebels made it tough on the Eagles hitters. MCC took the first set 25 to 20. The second set would see Gilbertson continue her great play and she began to get help from Suttyn Schryvers. The young duo for the Rebels was too much for the Eagles to handle, as the Rebels took set two 25 to 10. The Eagles played a much tougher third set, but the Rebels wouldn’t be stopped, ending the game in set three, 25 to 21.

The Rebels picked up their third straight Red Rock Conference win. Reese Gilbertson led the Rebels with 13 kills while Schryvers finished with 12. Ava Deacon had 26 digs and Kate Blankenship added 16. Erynn Rohrer led the Rebels with 36 assists. The Rebels have a big week coming up with two road games, the first in Westbrook and the second in Edgerton. The Rebels can move themselves up the Red Rock Conference standings with a pair of wins this week, but they wont be easy.
