Windom 88 - MCC 50

The Murray County Central Girls Basketball team played their final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday night. One night after beating the Wabasso Rabbits, the Rebels were in Windom taking on the Windom Area Eagles. The Eagles are a tough matchup for the Rebels because they like to pressure the ball and score quickly. The Rebels are not a high scoring team, so to get a win they would need to slow the Eagles down which is easier said than done.

The Rebels have been riding a roller coaster since Christmas. Each game has some high’s but is surrounded by lows. MCC has not shown the consistency needed to beat some of the better teams on their schedule, because they can’t sustain their best offense throughout an entire game. Tuesday the Rebels showed that up and down type of play. MCC would battle with the Eagles throughout the first half. The Rebels scored 32 first half points, which is a good half for the Rebels, but the Eagles scored 43 points to lead at the half 43 to 32.

The second half would see the Eagles maintain their offense. In fact, they would score 45 points in the second half, two more points than the first half. The Rebels, on the other hand, struggled with turnovers and scored just 18 points. Several games this season the 50 points would be enough for a win, but against the Eagles it would result in an 88 to 50 loss.

The Eagles shot 42% from the field in the win, while MCC shot 26%. The Rebels turned the ball over 28 times in the game. The Eagles only gave the ball away 11 times. Due to the high turnover number, the Rebels only took 56 shots from the field. The Eagles on the other hand, took 80. The Rebels were led in scoring by Taylor Larson with 11, while Ava Deacon added 10. Ava Deacon also led the Rebels with 8 rebounds in the game, while Thea Schneider added 7. The Rebels next game will be Thursday in Slayton against Edgerton Public.
