EDGERTON 63 MCC 58
The MCC Rebel Girl’s played their second game of the week on Tuesday when they traveled to Edgerton to take on the Flying Dutchmen. The Rebels, on Monday, beat the TMB Panthers and led almost the entire game. Tuesday, the Rebels got off to a great start, as they put together a great first half. But the Rebels would follow it up with a rough final eight minutes of the game, as the Flying Dutchmen rallied back for a big Red Rock Conference win.
MCC came out shooting on Tuesday, as the Rebels put up 39 points in the first half. It was the Rebels highest scoring first half of the year, but the Flying Dutchmen, though down double figures, kept the game within arms reach. MCC did everything you would want to see a team do in the first half. Unfortunately, it would not last.
The second half saw the Rebels maintain their lead until the final eight minutes of the game when the Dutchmen made their big push and the Rebels could not answer. The Rebels did some really good things in this match-up, but they couldn’t stop the Dutchmen in the second half as they scored 37 points. On the offensive end the Rebels scored just 19. Maybe the Rebels were feeling drained, playing their second game in two days or maybe it was just the Dutchmen picking up their defensive pressure. MCC struggled to rebound the basketball defensively and that allowed the Dutchmen to get second chance points which they took advantage of on their way to a 63 to 58 win.
The Flying Dutchmen turned the ball over just 13 times in the game while the Rebels gave it away 23 times. MCC shot 28% from the field while the Dutchmen shot 34 %. MCC made 14 of 19 free throws while Edgerton made 15 of 30. MCC got beat on the boards 40 to 26. The Rebels were led in scoring by Ava Deacon, with 16 points and Kelli Miller with 13. Thea Schneider finished with 9 while Taylor Larson scored 8. Ava Deacon led the Rebels with 7 rebounds. For Edgerton, Reese Vande Griend scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds with Kami Smit adding 12 points and Cali Wagner scoring 10. The Rebels will finish the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule Friday night in Slayton against HLOF.
