April 20 RTR at MCC
The MCC Rebel Baseball team was at home on Monday, playing host to Red Rock Conference opponent Russell Tyler Ruthton. The Knights entered the game at 5-1 on the season while the Rebels were 5-0. Both teams have strong pitching staffs and they would show that on Monday. But one team came through with more clutch hits on a day that was tough to hit with the wind blowing in from left field.
Krew Schneider got the start for the Rebels and the junior continued his strong start to the season. Schneider went the distance, throwing under 100 pitches in seven innings and allowing just 1 hit. Levi Tommeraasen came up with the only hit for the Knights, while MCC committed 2 errors and Schneider walked 1 batter. The Knights’ best chance to score came in the sixth inning when they loaded the bases with two outs on a error, a walk, and a hit by pitch. The Rebels would get out of the inning with a ground ball out to Schneider on the mound. The Rebels held the Knights scoreless for another MCC shutout.
The Rebels scored their first runs in the third inning. Carter Hanson walked to leadoff the inning and Teague Meyer reached base on an error. With one out, Dugan Kluis was walked, loading the bases. A passed ball by the Knights allowed Hanson to score from third base. Schneider reloaded the bases when he was hit by a pitch. On another passed ball, with two outs, Meyer would score from third base and MCC led 2-0. The Rebels scored another run in the fourth to go up 3-0 on a Teague Meyer single to center. MCC added three runs in the 6th. Dugan Kluis hit a double to left center that drove in 2 runs and Krew Schneider singled to left to drive in Kluis and make the final score 6-0.
The Rebels are now 6-0 on the season and have shutout their opponents in four of the six games they have played. The Knights drop to 5-2 on the season, with both losses coming in Red Rock Conference play. Brayden Chandler took the loss for RTR on the mound, allowing 3 unearned runs on 3 hits, 4 walks, and 4 striekouts. Krew Schneider got the win for the Rebels allowing 1 hit, 1 walk, and 1 hit batter, while striking out 7. Schneider led the Rebel bats going 3 for 3 with an RBI. Dugan Kluis was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s and 1 run scored. Teague Meyer was 1 for 4 at the plate with 2 runs scored and an RBI. The Rebels will play Edgerton/SWC in their next game this week.
April 21 MCC at Edgerton/SWC
The undefeated MCC Rebel Baseball team was on the road to Edgerton on Tuesday to take on Red Rock Conference foe Edgerton/SWC. The Rebels were coming off a shutout win over RTR on Monday and their scoreless streak would continue on Tuesday as the runs kept coming in for the Rebels.
The Rebels scored a single run in the first inning to take the lead as Dugan Kluis hit a homerun to left field. The Rebels opened the game up in the top of the third inning. Tristan Behrands connected on a two run triple to put the Rebels ahead 3-0. The Rebels were not done. Krew Schneider singled in another run and then a bases loaded walk pushed the Rebels lead to 5-0. Carter Hanson singled in two runs as the Rebels led 8-0 after three. Dugan Kluis led off the fourth inning with a double and Krew Schneider hit a homerun to put the Rebels ahead 10-0. MCC did not stop, scoring another eight runs in the inning.
Dugan Kluis got the start for the Rebels and the junior was dealing from the mound. Kluis pitched the first four innings, striking out 10 of the 12 while allowing 3 walks and two hits. Tristan Behrands pitched the final inning, allowing a hit and striking out two of three batters. MCC would get the win 18-0. The Rebels posted their third straight shutout all in Red Rock Confernce play.
Dugan Kluis picked up the win for the Rebels. Tristan Behrands and Dugan Kluis had three hits each with Behrands driving in three runs and Kluis two. Krew Schneider and Carter Hanson had two hits each with both players driving in three runs each. MCC hit a pair of homerun with Schneider and Kluis connecting on the long ball. Behrands had a triple for the Rebels.
MCC will finish the week on Friday at home with a game against Adrian/Ellsworth.
