The MCC Baseball team was back in Red Rock Conference action on Monday as they played host to the Coyotes of Heron Lake Okabena Fulda. The Rebels have opened the season on a four game winning streak. The Coyotes had a nice win over TMB to open the season but they were riding a two game losing streak coming into Monday. The Rebels would make sure the losing streak moved to 3 games, as MCC would dominate.
Teague Meyer made the start for the Rebels and the junior threw the first four innings of the game. He scattered three hits by the Coyotes and didn’t walk a batter, while striking out 9. Meyer allowed one earned run. The Rebels brought in Tristan Behrends to pitch the fifth inning and he walked 1 and gave up 1 hit, while allowing an unearned run and striking out 1. The Rebels were once again economical with the pitches. Having a big lead helps.
Offensively, the Rebel bats were on point, with 15 hits in four innings while also drawing 8 walks, and 3 hit batters. The game got off to a great start for the Rebels with Teague Meyer singling to center. Dugan and Dylan Kluis loaded the bases with back to back walks. Krew Schneider stepped to the plate next and hit a grand slam to center field to make the score 4-0. The Rebels offense continued with singles by Gabe Tentinger, Carson Lewis, and Cayden Veldhuisen to load the bases. Carter Hanson singled to right, scoring Tentinger. Back to back errors by the Coyotes plated two more runs and the Rebels led 8-0 with no outs and the bases loaded in the first inning. Dugan Kluis doubled to left field, scoring two more runs and the Rebels led 10-0. The Rebels would add 3 runs in the second inning and then 8 runs in the 4th. MCC got the win, 21 to 4 in five innings.
Teague Meyer went 3 for 4 with 2 stolen bases, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBI’s. Dugan Kluis was 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs and a double. Gabe Tentinger had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s in the game for the Rebels. Dylan Kluis drove in 2 runs in the game and Schneider had the grand slam for 4 RBI’s. Teague Meyer picked up the win as the Rebels are now 5-0 to open the season.
