The MCC Rebel Boys Baseball team opened their season last Friday with a strong 11-1 win over the Pipestone Area Arrows. Monday, the Rebels were back in action against the Adrian Ellsworth Dragons, as the Rebels opened Red Rock Conference play. The Dragons came into the game 0-1 on the season after losing a shootout with Minneota/Canby last week 16-14. Monday, the Rebels got off to a great start as they took control early for the win.
The Rebels went scoreless in the first inning, but then exploded in the 2nd with 8 runs. Krew Schneider hit an infield single and Dylan Kluis reached on an error to open the second inning. An error at first base would allow the first run of the game as Schneider scored. It allowed Lewis to advance to second base with Kluis at third. A single by Gabe Tentinger drove in Kluis from third and the Rebels took a 2-0 lead. MCC loaded the bases on a single to center by Cayden Veldhuisen. With one out, Teague Meyer singled to right field, scoring two runs and putting MCC ahead 4-0. Gavin Gillette got an infield sin-gle to plate another run for the Rebels. Dylan Kluis doubled to center field to plate another run. Dugan Kluis reached on another error by the Dragons, which scored more runs, as MCC led 8-0. The third inning opened with back to back singles by Tentinger and Veldhuisen. A sacrifice bunt by Tristan Behrends moved the runners up a base and then Teague Meyer drove them in with a single to center field. Gavin Gillette got his second hit of the game and the Rebels scored 2 more runs on a double by Dylan Kluis. The Rebels ended the game in the bottom of the sixth inning with a pair of runs coming from a walk to Veldhuisen and a single by Behrends. Teague Meyer bunted for a base hit to load the bases. Gavin Gillette hit into a fielder’s choice, but a run scored and an error plated another run as the Rebels won 14 to 4.
