On March 13, 2024 at 0823 Murray County deputies located a vehicle known to be driven by Sean Eric Vanmeveren. As Murray County Deputies were setting up a perimeter to attempt to make an arrest, Vanmeveren got into his vehicle and began driving toward two Murray County Deputies. Once Vanmeveren saw the deputies he accelerated his vehicle around the waiting deputies, deputies were able to identify Vanmeveren as the driver. Murray County Deputies radioed dispatch they were involved in a pursuit with Vanmeveren.
Deputies pursued Vanmeveren for about 6 miles, Vanmeveren entered a rural Murray County farm-site. Vanmeveren exited his vehicle and stole a vehicle from the farm-site. Vanmeveren then continued to lead Murray County Deputies and assisting agencies on a 4G-45-mile long pursuit in rural Murray and Cottonwood Counties. Vanmeveren stole a second vehicle at a rural address near Westbrook, MN. Vanmeveren led pursuing officers into the City of Westbrook for a short time, which prompted a notification to the Westbrook school. The Superintendent, Loy Woelber promptly put the school on a brief lockdown.
The pursuit came to an end Northwest of Dovray, MN, where Vanmeveren was taken into custody without incident. During the pursuit Vanmeveren made at least 5 attempts to ram pursuing Officers/Deputies vehicles. Vanmeveren was clearly operating these stolen vehicles without any regard for the safety of the public or officers/deputies involved in the pursuit.
Vanmeveren is wanted for his connection to vehicle theft, property theft and pursuits in Murray, Cottonwood, Redwood, Jackson, Blue Earth counties in Minnesota as well as Emmet County, Iowa. Vanmeveren is currently being held pending his first court appearance. There is no on-going risk to the public at this time.
The Murray County Sheriffs Office was assisted by the following agencies; Slayton Police Department, Buffalo Ridge Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office, Pipestone County Sheriffs Office, Westbrook Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota Department of Natural Recourses, and the Westbrook Area Ambulance.
