Nobles Cooperative Electric is thrilled to announce the 2024 Youth Tour Contest Winner. Vince VanderKooi, senior at Worthington High School, has been chosen to represent the cooperative at the 2024 Rural Electric Youth Tour in Washington, D.C., from June 18-23, 2024. Vince, son of Joe and Rita, will join 1,900 high school students from cooperatives nationwide.

Additionally, Jocelyn Horn, a senior at Adrian High School and daughter of Dan and Monica, was awarded a $500 scholarship. Another student, Isabel Thier, a senior at Adrian High School and daughter of Dave and Ann, received $150.

The Youth Tour is open to high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors residing in or attending school in Nobles Cooperative Electric’s service area. Applicants go through a selection process by submitting an application and an essay. A panel of three judges evaluates the applications and essays, interviews the finalists, and selects the lucky winner for the unforgettable trip.

For many participants, the Youth Tour is a first-time experience away from home and a maiden voyage to Washington, D.C., where they witness the nation’s history firsthand. CEO/General Manager Adam Tromblay described the tour as a “trip of a lifetime,” providing an exceptional opportunity to explore the heart of the nation’s government, collaborate with cooperative leaders nationwide, and enhance leadership skills.

The Youth Tour offers a comprehensive itinerary that includes meetings with national leaders and visits to prominent landmarks. It also facilitates discussions with students from other states, encouraging learning about government, history, public service careers, and electric cooperatives. Nobles Cooperative Electric supports this program to identify and nurture future community leaders.
