MURRAY COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY FRONT PORCH CONCERT SERIES

The Murray County Historical Society is excited to announce it has been awarded an Art Projects grant for $3,050 from the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council to host our annual Front Porch Music Concert Series. The concert lineup and dates are as follows: Route 68 Big Band, a group formerly known as the Minneota Community Jazz Band. They play big-band music from the ’30s and ’40s (Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Artie Shaw, etc.) and perform five or six times per year. Directed by John Voit, Minneota High School band director, the group consists of teachers, farmers, and other local community members. See them Thursday, July 24, 2025.

CarKnees, who play a variety of classic and contemporary songs. A local band, they are well known for playing and providing music for local events like the Slayton Women of Today’s Autumn Boutique, the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum Family Fun Festival, and classic car Roll ins. Tony Moger, a local artist who has played many area venues and festivals. Moger began playing nursery rhymes on the guitar and found his love of music again, making new songs. With encouragement from his wife, he is back to playing music - covers and originals. See him Thursday, August 7, 2025.

The concerts are free to attend and will take place on the front porch of the historic Dinehart Holt House at 2812 Linden Avenue in Slayton. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket. Free refreshments will be available. Each concert begins at 7pm.

This activity is funded in part with a grant from the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council made possible by an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the State’s general fund.
