MURRAY COUNTY 4-H HOSTS ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET

Many Murray County 4-H members and volunteers were recognized at the annual awards banquet held on Sunday, November 24 at the Murray County 4-H Building.

Murray County 4-H Ambassadors along with Cameron and Chandler Hilltoppers 4-H Club hosted this event where the theme was, “Murray County 4-H Values Tradition.” The menu consisted of a shredded pork sandwich, mashed potatoes, cowboy beans, cornbread, and some fall desserts.

Murray County 4-H is honored to have a group of 35 youth Ambassadors helping with various activities throughout the year and setting an example to our other 4-H members.

Members received recognition for their record completion, years in 4-H, outstanding fundraiser sales, goals achieved, younger achiever award, and the young youth leader awards.

Landon Beek was named the Outstanding Murray County 4-H Ambassador Award for 2024. Landon is a member of the Cameron 4-H Club.

Erica Doeden was awarded the Ignite your Spark Award (formerly known as the “I Dare You Award).

There were five recipients that received a $500 Murray County 4-H Scholarship, those members being: Lindsey Hause – Currie Poco-a-Poco 4-H Club, Olivia Wehking – Bondin Belfast 4-H Club, Logan Kidman – Lakers 4-H Club, Landon Beek – Cameron 4-H Club, and Lauren Larson – Slayton Shooting Stars 4-H Club.

Young Youth Leader Awards were presented to: Edwin Nepp, Leah Carter, Owen Wittrock, Paige Wittrock—Currie Poco-a-Poco.

We had one member receive our Young Achievers Award, and that was Isabela Schreier—Currie Poco-a-Poco Volunteers honored for their years of service to 4-H were: 5 years: Andy Beek, Suzi Gengler, Angela Iverson, Anita Peschges, Bethany Rylaarsdam, Mckenna Schreier, and Cat Winters. 10 years: Blair Hellewell, Tami Hellewell, Michelle Hoekman, Amy Kathman, Wayne Mouw, Haleigh Ortmeier – Clarke, April Post, Grant Post, Paul Posthuma, Jody Schaap, and Matt Surprenant. 15 years: Linnea Surprenant.

Dennis Welgraven was selected as the 2024 Friend of 4-H Award. Thank you for not only sharing your time in the ring, but also for serving on various committees. You are always willing to listen to our ideas and help when challenges arise. We are very fortunate to have you as a commissioner, but also as a true supporter of Murray County 4-H.

Matt Kopperud was honored with the 4-H Alumni Award. Thank you for being an active volunteer, assisting with Project Bowl, and using your ability to drive bus for competitions or activities that happen throughout the year. We thank you for being willing to step up and support us. Thank you for all that you do!
