MURRAY COUNTY 4-H TO HOST SUMMER DAY CAMPS AGAIN IN 2024

Murray County 4-H will host nine sessions on summer programming that will suit a wide variety of interests!

The first day camp will be held on June 6 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Murray County 4-H Building, the cost for this event is free and open to grades K – 13 and will revolve around AG Robotics and how they are used in the agricultural industry.

There will then be a series of camps held at the Murray County 4-H Building and open to youth in grades K – 13. To kick-off the series kids will learn and plant different herbs to make a “Herbtacular Garden,” on June 10 starting at 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Of course it wouldn’t be a complete series without some food?! The Great Grilled Cheese Challenge will certainly fill some stomachs on June 11 at 10 a.m. and ending at noon. There will also be a Cake Pop session on June 25 starting at 1 p.m. and going until 3 p.m. to help get their dessert fix in. Summertime means the fair is approaching quickly! We will have an Arts & Crafts session that will allow youth to have three county fair ready projects done on June 24 starting at 1 p.m. and ending at 3 p.m. There is a $10 registration fee and youth are asked to bring that with them to the camp that day. The Power Protectors Day camp provides a fun way to learn about conservation of energy held on July 15 beginning at 1 p.m. and going until 3 p.m. The Murray County Fair Amazing Race will be held on July 16 rounding out our day camp series as we are getting close to fair, youth will have a chance learn about the Murray County Fair while also participating in fun activities and games. This will be held on July 16 at 1 p.m. and ends at 3 p.m.

The Southwest Regional General Livestock Judging Contest will be held on June 26 and is open to surrounding counties (there is a $10 registration fee for non-Murray County participants). Please register at https://z.umn. edu/2024SWJudgingContest. Open to youth in grades 3- 13 with registration starting at 9 a.m. at the Murray County Fairgrounds.

Throughout June and July, there will be a chance for youth to participate on a SWIM team who traditionally practice Tuesdays and Thursdays each week (unless said otherwise). Practices are held at Slaytona Beach West in Slayton, MN but locations may vary. This gives youth a chance to focus on swimming strokes, healthy living choices, as well as selfimprovement throughout the summer. The cost is $35 per youth and is open to ages K and up. Please register for SWIM at https://SWIM-4HSW. 4honline.com. “I think our summer day camp line up is one of the best to date! We are excited to teach youth new things but want them to have fun while doing so.” said Kim Hause, Murray County 4-H youth development educator.
