As harvest season gets underway, the Murray County 4-H Ambassadors are once again bringing the community together to show appreciation for local farming families through the annual Feed Our Farmers meal event.
The Feed Our Farmers event was created as a way for the Murray County 4-H program to recognize and thank the farmers and farming families who work long, demanding hours to provide food and agricultural products for communities near and far. Harvest is one of the busiest times of the year for farm families, often requiring early mornings, late nights, long days in the field, and countless hours of hard work.
Murray County 4-H Ambassadors are proud to help give back to those families during this busy season. With support from the community, the 4-H Ambassadors will prepare and provide a meal for farming families as a small gesture of gratitude for all they do.
“This event is a great opportunity for our 4-H Ambassadors and our community to come together and say thank you to our farmers,” states Kim Hause, the Murray County Youth Development Educator. “We know how much time, effort, and dedication goes into making harvest happen, and we want local farming families to know that their hard work is appreciated.” This year’s Feed Our Farmers meal will feature walking tacos, also known as tacos in a bag. The meal is designed to be convenient for families during the busy harvest season while still providing a fun and enjoyable meal for everyone.
Farming families who would like to participate are asked to register in advance so organizers can prepare an adequate number of meals. Families may register by contacting the Murray County Extension Office at (507)-836-6927 or by submitting their meal count online at: https://z.umn.edu/feedourfarmers2026 Registered families may pick up their meals on Sunday, October 4, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Meal pickup will take place inside the Murray County 4-H Building on the Murray County Fairgrounds (3048 Broadway Ave., Slayton, MN 56172).
The Feed Our Farmers event is made possible through the efforts of the Murray County 4-H Ambassadors and the support of community members who recognize the important role agriculture plays in Murray County. Events such as this provide an opportunity for young people to learn the importance of giving back and expressing gratitude to the individuals and families who contribute so much to the local community.
