As September is Minnesota School Board Members Month, Superintendent Mike Pagel thanked all board members for their service to the Fulda School District during Monday evening’s board meeting.
Approved was the certification of the preliminary 20262027 tax levy payable in 2028. The board voted to levy the maximum allowed by the state. Fulda FFA officer team requested school board permission to conduct an FFA Corn Drive and FFA Holiday Fruit Sales. The corn drive will be planned for a day in October from 9 am and 3 pm, and during school hours. Farmers will be asked if they would like to donate to Camp True Friends or FHS FFA and let them know the fund raising target of $2,000 to be sent to the farmers’ choice - whether to go to Camp True Friends or to the FFA activity account.
Holiday Fruit Sales will be held during the month of October. Fruit will be delivered during the first week of December. Employment contracts were approved for paraprofessionals Anjelica Rosario and Mary Winter.
A resignation was accepted from Breanna Christians as the Junior Class Head Advisor/ Prom Coordinator the 20262027 year.
A request from Heidi Landgren for the Junior class to sell foam fingers and seat cushions at all home events for football and volleyball was approved.
For the Fulda Community Education Report to the board, director Susan Lee stated that senior aquacise had 95 swimmers this month. There were 126 people who were at open swim. One private pool party was held in August and more private lessons were given.
The weekend pool schedule will be only when guards are available, due to the fact that all lifeguards are in sports after school.
The fall Community Education brochure is out.
Athletic director, Greg Erdmann, listed the following upcoming activities: Turkey Day this week; First Home VB Game is Tuesday, September 22; First Home Football Game is Friday, September 25th; Soccer at home is September 14th and 15th; Homecoming is October 9th versus Westbrook-Walnut Grove; and the Career Expo for Sophomore students is at MN West on September 23rd.
Two stat boards were acquired from a neighboring school at a substantial savings. They are to be installed and in use for the upcoming winter season.
Fulda District has received approval from the Minnesota State High School League for student participation in the Gymnastics Worthington Coop, as well as hockey.
Elementary principal, Brett Pagel stated that enrollment is sitting at a total of 152 students in kindergarten through 6th grade, plus 49 more in 4-yearold preschool.
He noted that parent-teacher conferences were on September 2nd and 8th with 95.5 percent participation.
Upcoming events are Picture Day on September 17th, Raider Time on September 25th; 3 year-old pictures and makeups on October 2; Homecoming Week is October 5-9; and Fire Safety Week activities are October 8 and 9th.
High school principal and superintendent Mike Pagel said that there are 144 in person students and 2 full-time PSEO students.
Fall picture day at the high school was scheduled for September 14th.
Superintendent Pagel also gave updates regarding the high school building entry plans, and the facility and building project.
Discussed was the upcoming November 3, 2026, election with the Minnesota ballot carrying the voters consideration of increasing the Permanent School Fund Proposed Constitutional Amendment distribution amount.
The Permanent School Fund Trust dates back to 1858, and was created to support public education. The proposed amendment would modernize the approach of annual distributions to be based on 4.5% of the fund’s average market value over the previous three years.
If passed, this measure would jump the amount Fulda District receives per student from $68 to $101. The current 2025 Distribution is $24,428.36 and the estimated Post-amendment Distribution would be $36,253.58 - an increase of $11,825.22.
Only a simple majority is required for the measure to pass. Leaving the question blank counts as a no vote.
District groups and supporters that were recognized included all staff members, students, and school families for a great start to the 2026-2027 school year. Also recognized for school supply donations were United Way of Southwest MN, Murray County Medical Center, Fulda Community Club, and the Fulda American Legion Auxiliary. 507 Burger and Pizza was thanked for the lunch in the park that they served.
Monday, October 12th is the next Fulda School Board meeting, 6 p.m. at the high school.
