Corey and Tash Munneke, of Rock Valley, la., began camping at Lake Shetek last year and fell in love with the area.

However, when they visited, they noticed that the gas station on the corner of highway 59 and Valhalla Road was closed or didn’t have what they needed.

“When it came up for sale last fall, I told my wife we should probably buy it,” said Corey. “It’s a prime location,” added Tash. “You have to go by it to go to the lake.”

The couple owned a gas station in Rock Valley for five years and are using that experience to operate The Store. Coco, their manager from their previous station has even joined them as The Store’s manager.

The Munnekes took ownership on July 5 and have been busy adding amenities to the business.

The Store currently offers basic groceries, convenience store items, camping supplies, ice, fuel, bait and propane exchange. In the future, they will also have a liquor and tobacco license.

“The campers and locals are extremely happy that the store is open again,” said Corey. “It’s been fun talking with new people all the time.”

As the duo work on fine tuning The Store’s hours, they are utilizing their Facebook page “The Store” to make announcements and provide information about closing time. Right now, the hours are 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. during the week and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the weekends.
