On March 31st, the Murray County Historical Society was notified that we were awarded a $3,044 grant funded by an appropriation to the Minnesota Historical Society from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. The grant money will go towards increasing our newspaper microfilm collection by allowing us to purchase 35 reels of microfilm. Newspapers to be purchased are the Murray County Wheel Herald 1998-2006, the Murray County News 1995-2007, and the Fulda Free Press 1995-2007. This will allow us to better serve researchers who have requests for information from the 1990s, which was 30 years ago at this point.

The family of Joyce Larson purchased 2 new sewing machines with memorial money the family received and recently presented them to the Christ Lutheran Church quilters. Joyce Larson and Alice Beattie had been in charge of quilting at Christ Lutheran for years. Needless to say, the quilters were very appreciative of the gift, as the sewing machines they are currently using have been used for several years and had been donated by various members of Christ Lutheran Church.

Quilting is open to anyone wanting to participate. Quilting days are the last Monday and Tuesday of each month at 1pm. Pictured above are some of the quilters with Joyce Larson’s daughters, Brenda Hurlbut, Kathy McDonald and JoAnn Lewis.
