MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM TO FEATURE RETIRED AIR FORCE MAJOR GENERAL

A joint Memorial Day celebration hosted by both American Legion Posts Erwin March #64 Slayton and Donald E. Ewy #576 Avoca will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, May 29 at the Murray County Central Auditorium, with featured speaker Major General (Retired) Linda Marsh.

Marsh, who retired in 2021, last served as the Deputy Director of Logistics Operations of the Joint Staff. As the Deputy Director, Logistics Operations, she integrated logistics planning and execution in support of global operations and assisted the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in fulfilling his responsibilities as the principal military adviser to the President and the Secretary of Defense.

Having grown up in North St. Paul, Marsh was commissioned in 1987 through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota. She served seven years on active duty and two years in the Air National Guard prior to joining the Air Force Reserve. She has served in leadership positions at numbered Air Force, Air Force major command, headquarters Air Force and combatant command levels leading logistics, acquisition, research and test operations. General Marsh has deployed supporting operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and Joint Forge.

Marsh is the relative of a member of the Avoca American Legion.

The Memorial Day program at MCC will include a wreath presentation by the Slayton Cub Scouts, several performances by the Rebel Voices and the Slayton Community Band, and a reading of members who have transferred to post/unit everlasting in the past year.

The public is invited to a luncheon at the 4-H Building on the Murray County Fairgrounds following the program at MCC.
