The MCC Rebels were back at home on Tuesday afternoon beginning their second trip through the Red Rock Conference Softball Schedule. The Rebels took on the Coyotes of Heron Lake Okabena Fulda. The Rebels beat the Coyotes to open the season in a game in which the Rebels did more running than hitting. On Tuesday, the Rebel bats were alive from the first pitch to the last.

Mary Lou McNab started the game in the circle for the Rebels. She struggled a bit early with a couple of walks, but the Rebel defense backed her up. McNab didn’t allow a run over the first three innings. Then the Coyotes would got their only run of the game in the fourth inning. An error by the Rebels put a runner on first and after a ground out moved her to second. She then scored on a base hit by Katelynn Johnson.

The Rebels offense has been slow to start this season, failing to score more than a single run in the first inning so far. This time the Rebels jumped on the Coyotes from the beginning. Abby Loosbrock singled on the first pitch of the game. Mary Lou McNab doubled to centerfield to bring in Alyssa Boerboom who was courtesy running for Loosbrock. Thea Schneider doubled to center to put runners at second and third base. Morgan Winter hit a sacrifice fly to center to score McNab and Zoey Iverson would reach base on an error that allowed the third run of the inning to score. MCC led after one inning 3-0. The Rebels didn’t slow down in the second inning with Karissa Hurd walking, Emmi Peltola singling, and Loosbrock walking to load the bases. McNab’s single brought in two runs to expand the Rebel’s lead. Morgan Winter singled in two more runs. Atalie Rosenbrook drove in a run on a single and Karissa Hurd drove in two more on a triple. The game ended due to the 15-run rule in the bottom of the fourth inning when McNab hit a Grand Slam to center field to make the final score 16-1.

As a team, the Rebels combined for 12 hits, five of which were extra-base hits. Mary Lou McNab was 3 for 3 hitting with a double and a home run, 7 RBIs, and 4 runs scored. Abby Loosbrock and Karissa Hurd each had two hits. Briana Engelkes had a double and an RBI for the Rebels off the bench. Mary Lou McNab got the win on the mound striking out 6 in four innings while walking 3 and giving up 1 hit and 1 unearned run. The Rebels will play in Sanborn on Thursday.
