If you were in the mood for some exciting volleyball, Tuesday night, Hills, MN was the place to be. If you are a Rebel fan, anyway.
The long trek to Hills didn’t damper the MCC team and they didn’t disappoint. Everything was balanced and the girls supported each other through every point.
In the first set, it was anybody’s game. The Patriots, supported by a young cast, were not letting the ball drop; continuously pounding it back at the Rebels.
Ultimately it was an HBC error that put the W in MCC’s column with a score of 25-21.
It was later in the rotation that the Rebels took control of game two. Kelli Miller pushed her team ahead from the service line, forcing an effective time out from the host team. Unable to keep the serve, it returned to MCC’s possession and Jessa Gillette (8 points, 2 aces) and Emmi Peltola (5 points, 1 ace) finished the set, 25-14.
The third and final set continued in MCC’s favor. The Rebels continued to string together a run of points.
The excitement of the night cannot be reflected in the scores. The volleys that ensued after each serve were just plain fun to watch. MCC prevailed, 25-15 to secure another conference win.
The attacks were well spread out between hitters. Kate Slettum and Abby Loosbrock contributed 8 apiece, followed closely by Elyse Paulzine and Thea Schneider, 6 each while Kate Blankenship and Abby Overman each chipped in 4 kills, adding to the team total of 36 kills in the match.
Dishing out assists were Slettum (21) and Kelli Miller (15). Libero Emmi Peltola and defensive specialist Jessa Gillette each had 8 digs, with Blankenship close behind with 7, contributing to the team’s 37 dig total.
