The MCC Volleyball team was back in action on Tuesday night after being off for more than a week. The Rebels travelled to Cottonwood to take on the Lakeview Lakers. Both teams entered the game looking for their first win of the season. The Rebels 0-1 on the season while the Lakers were 0-2. Both teams had played top rated opposition to start the season making this a great chance for either team to get their first win. The Lakers would play more consistent Volleyball over the course of the night to earn their first win of the year.
The Rebels started strong behind the play of Suttyn Schryvers who collected 3 kills and an ace over the first rotation of play. But the Lakers adjusted their defense and manged to hold a small lead. As game one continued, Taylor Hinz would elevate her game and the outside hitter did a great job of scoring through the Rebel Defense. Lakeview took game number one 25 to 19. The Rebels would flip the script in game two, as MCC fell behind 6-1 before the Rebels coaching staff took a timeout and the Rebels responded. MCC played some great defense around the net and Thea Schneider scored. The Rebels service game was strong as MCC came back to win game two, 25 to 19 to even the game at a set each.
Games 3 and 4 would belong to the Lakers. MCC made runs. Reese Gilbertson connected on 8 kills in the two games. Calleigh Doeden came up with a couple of kills and Peyton Degreeff had a couple of blocks. That said, it wasn’t enough, as Taylor and Avery Hinz kept the Rebels at bay. Aubreigh Rausch would get credit for her 1,000 career set assist as the Lakers took game 3 25 to 16. The Rebels led early but the Lakers took game 4 late, 25 to 19. The Lakers would get their first win 3 games to 1.
The Rebels struggled to be consistent in this match-up and the Lakers, when in trouble, could always go to Taylor Hinz for a kill. Hinz tallied 19 kills in the game. The Rebels were led by Thea Schneider who had 9 and Reese Gilbertson and Suttyn Schryvers would finish with 8 each. The Rebels dropped to 0-2 on the season and will host Dawson Boyd on Thursday night in Slayton for their first home game of the year.
