The 2024 Red Rock Conference Track & Field meet was held in Mountain Lake this year. Prior to the meet, the seniors from all eight conference teams were recognized for their time and commitment to their schools and programs.
With nearly ideal weather conditions, both the Rebel girls and boys teams would see many individual and team season best performances achieved. By the end of the night, the girls had 9 individual personal best results and 3 season best times in the relays. The boys would record 13 individual personal best performances and season best times in all 4 of the relays. Final team scores had the Rebel girls in third, just a half of a point from second and the boys in 6th.
Sophia Nelson had a huge day for the Rebel girls, claiming conference champion honors in the 800 and 1600 meter runs while also running a leg on the first place 4x400 relay team with Lindsey Hause, Reese Gilbertson, and Brylei Schreier. Hause and Schreier also achieved conference champion honors with Hause winning the 300 hurdles and Schreier the 400. Brylei also was runner up in the 200 meter dash.
Other top finishers in the individual running events on the girls side included Reese Gilbertson’s 6th place - 400, Brealyn Damm’s 6th place - 100 hurdles, and Holland Vogel 4th place - 3200 and 5th place -1600.
The 4x100 relay team of Courtney Gengler, Reese Gilbertson, Abby Overman and Jayda Hellewell earned all conference honors with their 3rd place finish. Gengler, Hellewell and Overman teamed up with Damm in the 4x200 relay, finishing 4th. The 4x800 relay team of Hause, Emma Risacher, Lily Daniels and Charu Paulzine also placed 4th.
Jayda Hellewell had the top performance within the field events for the girls, placing second in the triple jump. Teammate Abby Overman placed 8th in the same event. Brealyn Damm placed 4th in the high jump, as did Chloe Kremer in the pole vault. Lindsey Hause recorded an eighth place finish in the high jump. Thrower Callie Platt was a double placer, finishing 6th in the discus and 7th in the shot put. Krystyna Betz placed 8th in the discus as did Erica Doeden in the shot put.
The Rebel boys had one lone conference champion on the day and that was Anikan Larson in the 200 meter dash.
Larson scored points in all of his events finishing 3rd in the 100, 5th in the 400 and 7th in the long jump. Freshman Caleb Rosenbrook was conference runner up in the pole vault while teammate Luke Iverson placed 4th in the same event. The 4x100 relay team, made up of Rosenbrook, Iverson, Andrew Holm and Thomas Huso, were also conference runners up. Rosenbrook, Iverson, and Holm teamed up with Carson Engelkes in the 4x200, placing third and obtaining all conference honors.
The 4x400 relay team (Beckett Stelter, Hudson Schryvers, Engelkes and Holm) and the 4x800 team (Alex Betz, Stelter, Henry Carlson, and Wesley Hause) placed 4th. Rounding out points earners in the running events include: Thomas Huso - 6th 110 hurdles (running for the first time ever!), Carter Knakmuhs - 7th in 110 hurdles, Beckett Stelter - 8th in the 800, and Alex Betz - 8th in the 3200.
In the throws, Thomas Huso placed 6th in the shot put while Broox Platt was 6th in the discus.
The Rebels next action is Thursday, May 23rd when they host the Section 3A South Sub-Section meet. Field events start at 4:00 while the running is at 4:30.
